Drug Unit

Our mission is to reduce drug related crimes and deaths by vigorously prosecuting major controlled drug manufacturing, distribution, and delivery offenses.

About the Unit

prayinghandsincuffs

The Macomb County Drug Unit vertically prosecutes all major drug crimes in the county from authorization of the warrant to trial:  this includes the distribution and manufacture of fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine and pills by high level narcotics traffickers, organized criminal enterprises, conspiracies and gang affiliates.  While vertical prosecution is not required in the vast majority of the 20,000 cases this office processes in a year, it is critical in narcotics cases due to the specialized knowledge of search and seizure issues that is required.

By working in conjunction with local, state, federal and multi-jurisdictional task forces and law and enforcement agencies, the drug unit aims to reduce the availability of illicit controlled substances to the community.  This, in turn, reduces the amount of drug related crimes and deaths associated with the use of illegal narcotics.

The Drug Unit is a ‘vertical prosecution’ section prosecuting major drug traffickers, serious repeat offenders and conspiracies to deliver controlled substances. This unit works with local, state, federal and multi-jurisdictional task forces.

‘Vertical Prosecution’ means that a single specialized Assistant Prosecutor will handle all phases of the prosecution of an individual case, from authorization of the warrant review through resolution or trial. While this method of prosecution is not required in the vast majority of the 20,000 cases this office processes in a year, it is critical in the most complicated and time consuming cases or in cases requiring a specialized training in a particular area of the law.
