The Engineering Department oversees the design and construction engineering of all road and bridge projects under the jurisdiction of Macomb County.

Under the direction of Director Bryan Santo and County Highway Engineer Scott Wanagat, the Engineering Department is responsible for the design and construction engineering of all road and bridge projects under the jurisdiction of Macomb County.

Responsibilities of the Engineering Department include:

  • Survey, preparation of plans, specifications, and bidding documents for projects
  • Project oversight and construction material testing
  • Program, implement, and construct:
    • Federal aid projects through the Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP)
    • Projects as part of MCDR’s Construction, Pavement Preservation, Local Bridge, Subdivision Reconstruction, and Non-Motorized Pathway programs
  • Biannual evaluation of all federal aid eligible roads through the PASER pavement condition rating system
  • Biannual safety inspections of 225 bridges and structures greater than 20 feet in length within the Macomb County transportation network
  • Safety inspections of more than 500 culvert structures within the Macomb County transportation network
  • Collaborate with local communities to prioritize and program future projects based on data, conditions, and needs
