Swimming pools and spas that are not properly maintained can create a health and safety risk to the people using them. Rashes, infections, and flu-like diseases can be caused from water that is not adequately disinfected or filtered. Physical injury may result if the pool or spa equipment and structure is not in good condition.
Pools and spas located in apartment complexes, motels, hotels, schools, parks, health clubs, etc. are licensed by the Michigan Department of Environment Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) and inspected each year by the local health department. In addition, all operators of a public pool/spa in Macomb County are required to have the water tested weekly and the results reported to the Health Department.
