Presumptive disabilities

If you were interred or detained in a hostile country for 30 days or more, and have any of the following conditions which have manifested, you may be able to receive monthly compensation for these disabilities, even if there is no record of them in your Service Medical Records. You could be suffering the residual disabilities from the malnutrition you survived as a POW. 

Conditions of malnutrition and detainment:

  • Any anxiety state
  • Avitaminosis
  • Beriberi and associated heart disease
  • Chronic Dysentery
  • Dysthymic Disorder or Depressive Neurosis
  • Gastrointestinal signs or symptoms
  • Frostbite residuals
  • Helminthiasis
  • Ischemic Heart Disease
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Malnutrition and optical feficiencies
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • Panic Disorder
  • Pellagra
  • Peptic Ulcer Disease
  • Post Traumatic Osteoarthritis
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Psychosis
