Korean and Cold War veterans

Brief description of conflict dates and presumptives.

If you served during the Korean War—anytime between June 25, 1950 and July 27, 1953—you may be at risk of certain health conditions.

Veterans who have been treated for residuals of Cold War injuries such as frostbite or Immersion Foot (non-freezing cold injury) could be entitled to VA Disability Compensation.

 

Residuals of Cold War injuries include: 

  • Abnormal skin color or thickness
  • Breakdown on ulceration of cold injury scars
  • Chronic fungus infection of the feet
  • Cold sensitivity
  • Chronic pain of the causalgia type
  • Disturbances of nail growth
  • Edema
  • Hyperhidrosis
  • Joint pain or stiffness
  • Night pain
  • Numbness
  • Paresthesias
  • Raynaud’s Phenomenon
  • Weak or fallen arches
  • Weakness of hands or feet
  • Vascular insufficiency (indicated by edema, shiny atrophic skin or hair loss)
