Macomb County - Planning & Economic Development
Macomb County has a strong history of environmental stewardship and has recently identified Lake St. Clair water resources as a focus for environmental stewardship, as well as tourism and economic development. The present project is a unique fit to this county-wide vision. The vision is being deployed by the County Planning & Economic Development group, working in partnership with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and regional partners such as the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments, the Clinton River Watershed Council & The Six Rivers Regional Land Conservancy.
Huron - Clinton Metropolitan Authority (HCMA)
The HCMA manages the largest regional park system in southeast Michigan. It consists of 13 parks that are located in the 5-county region serving Metro Detroit. The Metroparks occupy more than 24,000 acres and are associated with Lake St. Clair and the Huron or Clinton Rivers. The parks are used year-round by some 9 million residents and visitors with 80% of the lands kept natural and comprehensive interpretative programs are used to enhance visitor experiences. The HCMA houses one of three HEART Freshwater field station laboratories which conducts continuing research on beach health and freshwater ecosystems at the Lake St. Clair Metropark (LSCMP).
Wayne State University (WSU)
Wayne State University is one of the nation's preeminent public research universities (R1 Carnegie Classification). As leaders in innovative, transdisciplinary research and education, WSU researchers in the Urban Watershed Environmental Resource Group (UWERG) maintain ongoing collaborations to build sustainable solutions to economic growth and quality of life challenges that face transitioning urban communities in Detroit and throughout the country.
Macomb Community College (MCC)
Macomb Community College is one of the nation’s leading community colleges, providing learning experiences to nearly 48,000 students annually. Macomb nationally ranks among the top 25 awarders of associate degrees and as the largest grantor of associate degrees in Michigan. The college’s comprehensive educational programming includes pre-collegiate experiences, university transfer and career preparation programs, bachelor-degree completion and graduate degree programs, workforce training, professional education and certification, and continuing education and enrichment opportunities.
Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA)
The Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) provides water and waste water services to 126 municipalities in seven Southeastern Michigan counties. GLWA is responsible for operational, infrastructure improvements, environmental compliance and budget-setting responsibilities for the regional water and sewage treatment plants, major water transmission mains and sewage interceptors, and related facilities. The organization leases these facilities from the City of Detroit for an allocation of $50 million per year to fund capital improvements for the City of Detroit retail system and/or debt obligations. GLWA also funds a Water Residential Assistance Program to assist low-income residential customers throughout the system. The GLWA board includes one representative each from Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties as well as two representatives from the City of Detroit, and one from the State of Michigan to represent customer communities outside the tri-county area.
