About the Juvenile Justice Center

The Macomb County Juvenile Justice Center operated under the auspice of the Macomb County Executive Office is designed to provide a safe, secure and caring environment for youth who have struggled in the community and are under the jurisdiction of the Court. The facility is licensed by the state of Michigan as a child caring institution. The facility is a 140-bed, secure facility designed to provide both short-term detention and long-term residential treatment services for youth between the ages of 10 to 17 years. Only youth who are accused of or adjudicated for a crime or violation of probation may be detained in the facility. Placement in the Center typically occurs once the Court has exhausted all other less restrictive services. The facility personnel are responsible for the care, guidance and control of youth placed in the Juvenile Justice Center. Youth are released from the Juvenile Justice Center only upon authorization of the Court.

The Juvenile Justice Center staff is comprised of highly qualified and trained professionals who have both an independent and team role in providing youth with the best possible care.  All staff meet the minimum educational and experience requirements as required by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.  The Center provides all staff with ongoing training and evaluation to ensure the highest level of performance.  The Center’s personnel consist of administrators and supervisors, administrative support staff, therapists, direct care staff, staff trainer, transporters and food service personnel.  The facility also contracts on-site medical personnel and education staff.
