ADA accommodations
Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”), individuals with disabilities (as defined by the ADA) may be entitled to accommodations to participate in Court hearings or other business with the Court. The 16th Judicial Circuit Court has enacted a local administrative order (LAO 2015-06J) setting forth the Court's policies and procedures with respect to ADA accommodations.
To request an accommodation, we ask that you complete a Request for Accommodations Form (SCAO form MC 70). Once completed, please return this form to Case Management Office, located on the Fifth Floor of the Macomb County Circuit Court, 40 N. Main, Mount Clemens, MI 48043.
If your request is denied for any reason, you may fill out Review of Request for Reasonable Accommodations and Response and file this form with Case Management. Your request for review will be considered in accordance with the Court's Local Administrative Order 2015-06J, and a decision will be communicated to you in writing or some other accessible format.
Grievances regarding Court practices or procedures outside of specific requests for accommodation may be submitted in accordance with the Court's local administrative order (LAO 2015-06J).
If you have additional questions regarding an accommodation under the ADA, please contact the Court's ADA Coordinator at 586-469-5159 or 586-469-5076.
If you are deaf, hard of hearing, or speech impaired, you may wish to utilize the Michigan Relay Service by calling 7-1-1 for assistance in placing a call to the Court.
Interpreter communication with retained or court appointed counsel
Court-appointed and retained counsel must keep in contact with the foreign language and/or ASL interpreter, including the agency that has been assigned to the case, for future dates and case status. Their court time must be scheduled accordingly. Interpreters are to be notified as soon as possible of any scheduling or location changes.
