Washington Twp. Man Bound Over on Multiple Charges for the Alleged Assault of His Roommate Including Witness Intimidation

Dewitt Bunting was bound over for allegedly handcuffing his roommate without her consent and assaulting her.

Mount Clemens, MI - A 31-year-old Washington Twp. resident Dewitt Bunting was bound over for allegedly handcuffing his roommate without her consent and assaulting her in their Washington Twp. apartment on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.

Bunting was charged with Unlawful Imprisonment (15 year felony), Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (four year felony), Possession of Cocaine less than 25g (four year felony), Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer (two year felony), Felony Firearm (two year mandatory felony), and Domestic Violence Second Offense (one year misdemeanor). Jail calls from Bunting were monitored after his arraignment and Bunting was also charged with Witness Intimidation/Interfering (ten year felony).

Bunting was bound over on all counts to the Macomb County Circuit Court. He will be arraigned on Monday, April 29, 2024 at 1:30pm by Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Edward Servitto.

“We will not tolerate attempts to silence victims or obstruct the truth. Witness intimidation only adds another layer to the perpetrator's alleged actions. We will aggressively prosecute and charge those who seek to further abuse their victims through intimidation tactics,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
