Warren Man Arraigned in Shooting, Critically Injuring Man

A 37-year-old man was arraigned following an alleged shooting at his home in Warren after a fight with a Detroit man.

Derrick King

Mount Clemens, MI - A 37-year-old man was arraigned following an alleged shooting at his home in Warren after a fight with a Detroit man.

It is alleged that on Saturday, April 6, 2024, Derrick King and his girlfriend got into an altercation at a party in  Detroit. The 24-year-old victim intervened and started fighting with the defendant.  The girlfriend shouted that King may have her registered firearm.  The three parted ways.  The girlfriend went to the home she shares with King. She stayed in her vehicle as King drove up on his motorcycle.  Moments later, the victim pulled in front of the house and exited his vehicle while King was still standing in his driveway.  The victim and the King began fighting and then separated.  The victim began backing up and King allegedly fired 12 rounds at the victim and hit him multiple times.  The victim is in critical condition at a local hospital.

Derrick King is charged with the following:

  • Assault with Intent to Murder (life felony)
  • Felony Firearm (two year mandatory felony)
  • Carrying Concealed Weapon (five year felony)
  • Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm (five year felony)
  • Felony Firearm (two year mandatory felony)
  • Prohibited Person in Possession of Ammunition (five year felony)
  • Felony Firearm (two year mandatory felony)

King is also being charged as a habitual third offender.  Today, King was arraigned in 37th Warren District Court where District Court Judge Michael Chupa set bond at $300,000 cash/surety, no 10% and upon release he must wear a GPS tether and have no contact with the victim.

 A Probable Cause Hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at 8:30am and a Preliminary Exam is scheduled for Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at 8:30am by District Court Judge Michael Chupa.

"The alleged twelve shots fired at an unarmed man walking away, shows a total disregard for human life. We will not tolerate this behavior in Macomb County," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
