Mount Clemens, MI -  Today, 25-year-old Derricka Fleming from Clinton Township pled no contest to Involuntary Manslaughter (15 year felony) for the death of her son. On Sunday, January 22, 2023, Fleming left her apartment after putting her son to bed. In the early hours of Monday, January 23, 2023 the five year old victim exited the apartment and was found in a nearby park. The boy was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Fleming is scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday,  June 12, 2024 at 8:30am by Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Kathryn Viviano.

"Today's no contest plea brings some measure of closure, but it can never fill the void left by the loss of a precious life. Our hearts ache for the innocent child whose potential was tragically cut short," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
