Mount Clemens, MI - On March 20, 2024, a Shelby Twp. District Court jury convicted 53-year-old Scott Budnick after a jury trial by Assistant Prosecutor Lin Goetz.

On Thursday, July 7, 2022, part time Hamtramck Police Officer Scott Budnick was working as security at Coyote Joes Bar in Shelby Twp. when he confronted the victim in the entry line. Budnick believed the victim’s ID to be fraudulent and contacted Hamtramck dispatch and requested the victim’s information be confirmed through the Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) even though he was not working as a law enforcement officer at the time. Shelby Township Police and Michigan State Police investigated the incident and the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office charged Budnick with Unauthorized Disclosure of LEIN Information (93-day misdemeanor).

Yesterday, Budnick was convicted in Shelby District Court of the 93-day misdemeanor.  Shelby District Court Judge Douglas Shepherd sentenced Budnick to nine months probation, $500 in fines and costs and $125 probation oversight fee.

"We entrust law enforcement officers with the immense responsibility of upholding the law. When that trust is violated, it undermines the very foundation of our legal system.  Thank you to Retired Michigan State Police D/Sgt. Larissa Lamay and LEIN Specialist Lynette Felton for ensuring the victim’s voice was heard in this case,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s office represents the people. We are committed to achieving justice and following the laws of the State of Michigan.
