CSHCS eligibility expansion to age 26

The State of Michigan Children’s Special Health Care Services (CSHCS) is now accepting applications for clients aged 21-25. Application requirements differ based on your last medical and financial review dates, as well as your Medicaid status.

  • Medical review date before 9/30/2023: A new medical report is needed to establish medical eligibility.
  • Medical review date after 10/1/2023 with current full Medicaid coverage: No medical report, Application or Income Review Payment Agreement (IRPA) needed.
  • Medical review date after 10/1/2023 without current full Medicaid coverage:
    • If CSHCS coverage lapsed less that 12 months ago, an IRPA is required if the client is beyond their financial review.
    • If CSHCS coverage lapsed more that 12 months ago, an Application and IRPA is required.

If approved, coverage begins on October 1, 2023. Note that this could be a lapse in coverage for some clients.
