Time: 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Location: Verkuilen building, 21885 Dunham Rd, Clinton Twp, MI 48036

Summary:

In November the coalition met on the 13th,  a rescheduled date for the October meeting. The coalition heard the initial reported finding from McKenna and Associates the group hired to conduct the municipal assessment. Next the responses to the survey from child care providers in Macomb county were shared. Next, folks from both the past and present shared about the quality improvement efforts and workforce support available to child care providers, including a current program through Michigan Works! Macomb/St Clair supporting apprenticeship. Lastly, the group explored a few initiatives, innovations and other efforts to support child care in Michigan and beyond.

Date: 9/26/23
Time: 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Location: Senior Services Assembly Room at the Verkuilen building, 21885 Dunham Rd, Clinton Twp, MI 48036

Summary:

This month, we reviewed and discussed the data requested by the coalition during the last meeting, had a brief overview of some of the features of an economic development organization, and really dug into the research on family preferences for care and the initial results from our parent survey. Soon, we will be hosting paid parent and child care provider interviews to learn more about the needs and wants around child care in Macomb County.

Presentations:

Date: 8/29/23
Time: 9-11 a.m.
Location: Macomb Intermediate School District, 44001 Garfield #1100, Clinton Twp., MI 48038

Summary:

Our coalition met virtually and in person at the Macomb Intermediate School District to dig into data. We explored population-level data and trends and had rich conversations about how these trends impact child care business owners and families using child care. We heard thoughts from coalition members in business, workforce development, child care providers, parents, municipalities, service organizations, and more. We learned how the surveys (please take one!) will be marketed to encourage parents, child care providers business owners, and other employers.

Resources Presented:

Presentations:

Date: 7/28/23
Time: 9-11 a.m.
Location: Velocity Center 6633 18 Mile Rd, Sterling Heights, MI 48314

Summary:

Our coalition met virtually to ground ourselves in understanding our goals: 1. That all Macomb parents and families have equitable access to care that is affordable, high quality, and meets their needs and preferences; 2. Child care providers can offer high-quality care and education with family-supporting wages and benefits for all staff. We explained how the child care landscape analysis will be conducted, and everyone's role in the coalition, and dipped our toes into data about Macomb County. We heard from folks in many sectors and it was raised immediately that the cost of child care was too high and that the current going rates for child care did not offer most programs the funding needed to cover family-supporting wages
