MCHD Medical Reserve Corps

The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a national network of more than 200,000 volunteers, organized locally to improve the health and safety of their communities.

Who we are

MRC units organize and utilize local volunteers who want to donate their time and expertise to prepare for and respond to emergencies and to support ongoing preparedness initiatives. MRC volunteers include medical and public health professionals as well as other community members without healthcare backgrounds who want to improve the health and safety of their communities.

Our mission

The mission of the Macomb County Health Department Medical Reserve Corps is to train volunteers and provide organized assistance to the Macomb County Health Department and surrounding communities in the event of a county-wide public health emergency, large-scale disaster, terrorist event, disease outbreak, or special events. 

Benefits

Volunteering for the MCHD-MRC may provide opportunities for:

  • Free training to prepare yourself and your family for emergencies

  • Opportunities throughout the year to support the Health Department with Youth Preparedness, flu clinics, community outreach and education

  • Involvement with community organizations such as the Homeless Coalition and Health Occupations Students of America

  • Participation in emergency drills

  • Assisting during county-wide emergencies

MRC outreach opportunities

Our youth preparedness program teaches fifth-grade students throughout Macomb County how to prepare for emergencies by building emergency kits and using communication plans. Please complete the interest form if you would like to schedule a presentation for your classroom.

Our Stop the Bleed program empowers high school students to make a difference in the event of a life-threatening emergency by teaching them the basic techniques of bleeding control. Students learn how to properly apply tourniquets and pack wounds. Please complete the interest form if you would like to schedule a presentation for your school.
