To ensure safe, efficient, and reliable travel for motorists that use the more than 1,700 miles of roads and 225 bridges under the jurisdiction of Macomb County, MDCR is committed to improving our transportation infrastructure by delivering quality road, bridge, and traffic projects.

Between state, county, and local projects, there are hundreds of work zones in Macomb County each year. To help all road users navigate construction work in Macomb County, the Macomb Work Zone includes information and resources to keep the public informed and up to date of what's happening on the roadways.

Active projects

Below is a list of active Macomb County projects.

Mound Road in Sterling Heights and Warren
Location: Between I-696 and Hall Road (M-59)
Traffic: All paving work is complete and the road is open to traffic. There will be intermittent lane closures to complete landscaping and utility work during the winter and spring. Final landscaping and restoration work is anticipated to be completed in 2024.
Duration: August 2021 – 2024
Description: Road reconstruction. Work is part of the Innovate Mound project.

Dequindre Road at the Shelby Township border
Location: The Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) is continuing to work on the second phase of infrastructure improvements in the area of Dequindre Road between Hamlin Road and Avon Road and Dequindre Road between 23 Mile Road and 24 Mile Road. Drivers are encouraged to follow the posted detours and seek alternate routes when possible.
Duration: November 6, 2023 – December 2024
Description: Installation of new 96-inch water transmission main. Work is part of the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) project. Contact 1-877-237-7311 or 96inchwatermain@glwater.org for additional information.

Garfield Road in Macomb Township
Location: Between 23 Mile Road and 25 Mile Road
Traffic: Construction operations are taking place within the Garfield Road right of way without disruptions to traffic.
Duration: Fall 2023 – July 2024
Description: Construction of new road.

Washington Road in Chesterfield Township
Location: Between Baker Road and 25 Mile Road over the Salt River
Traffic: Washington Street will be closed to through traffic between 25 Mile Road and Baker Road. Alternate north and south routes in the area include Gratiot Avenue, I-94, Burdon Road and County Line Road. A posted detour is in place. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes.
Duration: January 8, 2024 – July 2024
Description: Bridge replacement.

25 Mile Road in Shelby Township
Location: Between Mound Road and Van Dyke Avenue over the Lawson Drain
Traffic: There will be intermittent lane closures to construct a new pedestrian bridge on the north side of 25 Mile Road. The road will remain open during construction operations.
Duration: January 2024 – June 2024
Description: Pedestrian bridge construction.

Kelly Road in Clinton Township and Fraser
Location: Between 14 Mile Road and 15 Mile Road
Traffic: The road will remain open to thru traffic with lane closures in place during construction operations. Starting March 4, northbound Kelly Road will be closed from 14 Mile Road to 15 Mile Road. Traffic on eastbound and westbound 15 Mile Road will be shifted for work at the intersection of Kelly Road. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes when possible.
Duration: March 4, 2024 – June 2024
Description: Road reconstruction.

Campground Road in Washington Township
Location: Between Van Dyke Avenue and 28 Mile Road
Traffic: The intersection of Campground Road and Van Dyke Avenue will be closed for roundabout construction. Access to businesses and properties along Campground Road will be maintained heading southbound on Campground Road from the north. A posted detour will be in place. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes.
Duration: March 18, 2024 – June 2024
Description: Roundabout construction.

🚧 West Archer Drive in Harrison Township 🚧
Location: West of East Archer Drive
Traffic: Intermittent single lane closures and flagging operations will be in place.
Duration: April 15, 2024 to April 26, 2024
Description: Punch list work to complete the 2023 bridge replacement project.

🚧 23 Mile Road in Chesterfield Township 🚧
Location: Between CN Railroad and Gratiot Avenue (M-3)
Traffic: The road will remain open to traffic with one lane open in each direction with turning movement restrictions, lane closures, and flagging operations (when necessary) in place during construction operations. Chesterfield Road at 23 Mile Road will be closed. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes.
Duration: April 22, 2024 – August 2024
Description: Road reconstruction. The project includes reconstructing the existing asphalt road to a five lane concrete road, storm sewer construction, CN Railroad grade crossing reconstruction, utility relocations, and restoration work.

🚧 28 Mile Road in Ray Township 🚧
Location: Between Kunstman Road and Wolcott Road over the Camp Brook Drain
Traffic: 28 Mile Road will be closed to through traffic between Kunstman Road and Wolcott Road for up to two days. A posted detour will be in place. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes.
Duration: May 6, 2024 – May 24, 2024
Description: Bridge preventative maintenance.

🚧 North Avenue in Armada Township 🚧
Location: Between 33 Mile Road and the Armada Village limits over the East Branch Coon Creek
Traffic: North Avenue will be closed to through traffic between 33 Mile Road and the Armada Village limits for up to two days. A posted detour will be in place. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes.
Duration: May 6, 2024 – May 24, 2024
Description: Bridge preventative maintenance.

🚧 Wolcott Road in Ray Township 🚧
Location: Between 29 Mile Road and Indian Trail over the North Branch Clinton River
Traffic: Wolcott Road will be closed to through traffic between 29 Mile Road and Indian Trail Road for up to two days. A posted detour will be in place. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes.
Duration: May 8, 2024 – May 24, 2024
Description: Bridge preventative maintenance.
