Keep 'March'-ing onwards: Four places to visit and beat the stubborn weather whiplash

The following blog was drafted by Natily Kiryakouz, an Early College of Macomb student who is participating in a job shadow with Macomb County Planning and Economic Development.

March is an awkward month for everyone with the cold still hanging on, but spring is right around the corner. Although there are many gloomy days that cause residents to be unmotivated to get out and enjoy the day, it is beneficial for one’s mental health and well-being to explore and try out new activities.

Luckily, Macomb County has numerous businesses that offer fun activities for you to do when this month's weather gives you whiplash.

Here are four activities near you to brighten up your day:

  • With this month still seeing chilly days, it is a wonderful opportunity to stay indoors and visit The Reptarium. The Reptarium is an indoor reptile zoo that carries reptiles, from snakes to alligators! They offer tours, general admission and other fun interactive experiences.

  • If you are seeking to have some enjoyment with friends, a spouse or your family, check out Painting With a Twist. Painting With a Twist is a painting class led by local artists, all while having great conversations, meeting new people and enjoying snacks and refreshments. There are many events to choose from such as family day, trivia night, painting your pet and many more. Do you have a large group? No worries, they also offer an option to host your own party.

  • C.J. Barrymore’s is a large amusement park that offers outdoor fun, as well as plenty of indoor activities. Don’t let the weather keep you from visiting C.J. Barrymore’s, as they have a wide variety of indoor options to choose from. Bumper cars, bowling and laser tag are just a few of the indoor activities available. For golf lovers, you can visit the golf dome, where for about $16, you can get a large bucket of balls to use at the driving range.

  • Looking for a way to challenge and stimulate your brain? Visit Escapology, an escape room designed to challenge and force you to think outside the box. This is a wonderful opportunity to solve puzzles, crack codes and find hidden clues with your group. Escapology also has a kid’s mode for little ones who are also looking to have fun.

As March may prevent you from getting outdoors to run, walk or bike Macomb County’s trails, there are still plenty of opportunities to enjoy the area. Just keep pushing through the month and get excited about all the outdoor recreations available in the weeks ahead.
