Meet Me on the Trail Day - September 25, 2021

Meet me on the Trail is a one-day event designed to celebrate the growing trail system in Macomb County and the many health and wellness opportunities it provides. With 13 locations across the county from which to choose, there are a variety of recreational, educational and community service activities offered. Activities include (but are not limited to) nature hikes, dog parades, pulling invasive species, games for kids and adults, art projects, giveaways and more! 

We are grateful for every community and partner involved! Please plan to visit one or more locations - rain or shine - and have some fun! See the interactive map or lists of events below:

Look for a poster at every location with details about how to enter a raffle for a prize package of outdoor family fun valued at $100. Snap a photo of a Meet Me on the Trail activity and upload it to enter! One prize to be given from each event location. Enter a photo for as many places as you visit, one entry per location.

Armada

Armada Schools Admin Bldg -74500 Burk Street Armada, MI 48005

RePlant Armada- Volunteer Tree Planting - 8:45 a.m. – 1 p.m.

  • Help replace trees lost during the tornado that touched down in Armada earlier this summer. We’ll plant 44 trees along residential streets as well as school and township properties. Your help will help to restore the many environmental, human health, and aesthetic value of trees to all of our neighborhoods. ReLeaf Michigan tree experts will be on hand to guide volunteers through the process.

    If you go: Please wear closed-toe shoes, bring a shovel if you have one and be prepared to get a little dirty!

Chesterfield Township

Salt River Nature Center

Explore the Trail Day: 1 – 3 p.m.

  • Explore the township's newest park!  Participate in a scavenger hunt, learn about labeled plants along the trail, play bird spotting BINGO. Plan to bring a lunch and sit along the shores of the Salt River and watch for wildlife.

Photo Scavenger Hunt: 1 - 3 p.m.

  • Meet with the team working to remove invasive species from across the region and go on a color scavenger hunt. Hit the trails to snap a photo or two and bring your best example back to to the activity station for a cool prize!

Clinton Township Civic Center

Safety first! 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

  • Meet an expert from Henry Ford Macomb Hospital’s Trauma Services to learn about safety on wheels!  Wanna know why it’s so important to protect your noggin? Try on a pair of concussion goggles to see how a brain injury can affect your perception! Free bike child sized helmets (limited supply) courtesy of TCB Youth Mentoring in Mt. Clemens, health information and more!

Detroit Zoo Outreach 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

  • This is your one-stop shop for information about your Detroit Zoo. Learn about our mission of Celebrating and Saving Wildlife and Wild Places while building your hand-eye coordination, spatial reasoning, observation skills and fine motor skills.

Guided Art Walk at the Festival of Senses - self-guided

  • Take a guided artwork hike through the trails at the Civic Center and arboretum. Learn more about trail and park features, as well as artwork onsite from the DIA Inside Out program. Find our full activity schedule Festival of the Senses

Spindler Park - South Pavilion (near circle-drive)

Tails on the Trail - 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

  • Walking event featuring dog-walkers. No need to have a dog to walk, but anyone bringing a leashed dog to walk the trail in costume will be eligible to win prizes! Donation for entry fee to contests will be donated to the fund to help build the local veterinary hospital.

Mindfulness Matters! 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. 

  • Meet with mental health experts to learn how mindfulness and grounding activities. These grounding exercises use mental distractions to help redirect your thoughts away from distressing feelings and back to the present.

Help My Garden Grow - 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

  • Wondering what you can do this fall to help your garden grow all next year. Visit with Master Gardeners to learn lots about caring for nature near all of us including planting for pollinators, natural ways to keep the pests at bay and gardening ideas for kids.

Groundbreaking for the soon-to-be Community Play Fountain: 10 a.m.

  • Kick-off the morning by celebrating the plans to create a "Cascade in the Shade," a new year-round play space with an interactive water feature for the summer!

Yoga/Meditation in the Park: 9 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.

  • Join a free 45-minute gentle yoga and meditation practice guided by an instructor Andrea Rose, a local birder and nature lover, who encourages practicing mindfulness in the great outdoors.

    If you go: Bring a mat if you have one - a blanket will do - and wear comfortable clothing. Donations accepted for the studio’s “Pay It Forward” program.

Walk-N-Play: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

  • Come enjoy that path throughout the park and have fun with lots of unique games and equipment regularly available for residents to enjoy including Giant "It's Dicey" (think yahtzee), Saucer Slam, Kickball, Baggo, Enorma Egg & Spoon Race, Cliff Hanger and about ten others you just gotta see to believe!

Explore our Trails with Us! 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Join the Nature Center Staff for a talk about all of the many beautiful hike bike trails within River Bends Park. Naturalists will offer two guided hikes along the lower trail at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.


Utica

Pioneer Park

Help our Garden Grow! - 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

  • The city’s community garden is ready to get ready for next year! Come out and help build new raised beds, clear excess vegetation and help put the garden to bed for the winter.
    Kids craft: pine cone bird feeders

  • If you go: bring gardening tools, gloves, wear closed toe shoes and be prepared to get a little dirty!
