Mobility Products & Design “adapts” to new location in Macomb County

Shelby Township is now home to Mobility Products & Design, a market leader in automotive adaptive devices, thanks to hard work by Senior Economic Development Specialist Jim Ahee and the economic development team.  Jim was instrumental in coordinating site tours of available buildings, as well as connecting Mobility with services for employee recruitment and training at the MichiganWorks! office.  Currently Mobility has eight full-time and several part-time employees.

After being acquired by German manufacturer Veigel Automotive, Mobility relocated from Indiana to the 11,000 square foot building on Celeste Drive earlier this year. The Department was proud to be invited to attend their grand opening in May, joining over 100 guests (including the CEO of parent company Veigel) from eight states and two countries!

Mobility Products & Design engineers and produces more than 50 products to help disabled drivers.  Their sleek and ergonomically designed hand controls, steering adaptations and pedal extenders are created to minimize driver fatigue. Various configurations allow the devices to be installed in many different makes and models.

With so many vehicles (possibly close to a million) needing some sort of disability adaptation, Mobility Products is well-positioned to tap into the local supplier network. We wish them much success as they grow their business here in Macomb County.
