Macomb County MSU Extension to host online mindfulness courses, teach stress management
Macomb County MSU Extension will host five free one hour sessions of its 'Stress Less with Mindfulness' course to help attendees learn a wide variety of mindfulness strategies that lead to stress reduction, pain relief and improved focus. Classes, which are free to all participants, will be held daily June 20 through June 24 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Zoom.
Mindfulness can be defined as paying attention in a particular way; on purpose, in the present moment and nonjudgmentally. Research has shown that practicing mindfulness is effective in reducing stress-related symptoms such as worry, depression and physical tension, and may be helpful in managing chronic conditions.
"By offering adults and seniors alternative ways of relating to everyday life experiences, including thoughts, emotions, physical sensations and events, Stress Less with Mindfulness teaches and encourages the use of mindfulness self-care skills to help one feel better and enjoy life more," said Haya Elzib, health program instructor, Macomb County MSU Extension. "The courses would be beneficial for anyone and attendees will have real-world takeaways that they can apply in their own lives."
