More than 570 companies make up Macomb County's network of IT and cybersecurity businesses and collectively they employ more than 10,000 workers. These companies are revolutionizing the digital infrastructure by utilizing sophisticated software systems and the latest in technology. These IT and cybersecurity advancements intertwine with and enhance many key industries. From protecting automated assembly lines to medical records, technology sectors are driving the future of industry 4.0.





Over the past decade, employment in the IT and cybersecurity industry sector has doubled in Macomb County. This 94 percent growth in jobs far outpaced the state of Michigan at 43 percent and the nation at 26 percent. The occupations driving the growth in this industry include software developers with 249 percent growth, systems analysts with 106 percent growth and network support specialists 205 percent growth. Helping fill the demand for these high growth occupations are emerging two and four year degree programs, as well as career pathway-driven academy learning opportunities in secondary education.

At the Velocity Hub of the Michigan Cyber Range, Macomb County companies have access to the resources needed to secure connected products. Certification classes in the area offer more than 20 different cybersecurity disciplines and equip the local workforce with the knowledge needed to excel in this growing industry. The county is also home to MADCAT (Michigan Automotive & Defense Cyber Assurance Team), an organization devoted to supporting the region’s cybersecurity ecosystem. Through collaborative partnerships with entities that range from technology companies to local school systems, MADCAT focuses on driving innovation forward.



Velocity Hub of the Michigan Cyber Range - Sterling Heights, MI

Opened in 2016, this publicly accessible hub of the Michigan Cyber Range is powered by Merit Network and offers a training space for live cybersecurity exercises utilizing the cyber range’s virtual environment known as Alphaville. Merit provides certification courses in over 20 different cybersecurity disciplines. The hub is the result of a collaboration between Merit Network, the Michigan Defense Center of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Macomb County Department of Planning & Economic Development, the city of Sterling Heights and Oakland University.
