Point-in-Time (PIT) Count is an annual census required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. This event aims to provide a clearer picture of the homeless population in Macomb County, helping direct resources to those who need them the most.
Event Details:
- Date: Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025
- Time: 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
- Location: Volunteers will be assigned a specific geographic area within Macomb County. These areas will include identified "hot spots," locations where individuals experiencing homelessness are known to be.
Groups of three to four volunteers per vehicle will canvass the County in search of those who, during the PIT count hours, are found outside unsheltered. Volunteers will gather data on those encountered, including gender, race and ethnicity for all persons. Additional data will be gathered if the person interviewed voluntarily provides the information. A care bag and a resource sheet with shelter, healthcare, and other essential information will be provided to everyone encountered.
