New Baltimore, MI – On Saturday, June 13, 2026, Macomb County Sheriff's Office Marine Division deputies assigned to Patrol Boat #2 responded to an emergency call from the U.S. Coast Guard regarding a missing jet ski passenger in Anchor Bay.
The jet ski operator, a 19-year-old male from Macomb Township, stated he and his passenger, a 20-year-old male from Macomb Township, had launched from Brandenburg Park and traveled to Cabana Blue Lakefront Grill in Clay Township. While returning to Brandenburg Park they encountered rough water conditions, and the passenger came off the jet ski. The jet ski operator did not immediately realize the passenger had fallen off. The operator searched the area but was unable to locate the passenger.
While deputies searched the area, another vessel approached Patrol Boat #2. The operator reported that he had located the passenger floating approximately ¼ mile offshore, just north of Brandenburg Park. He transported the jet ski passenger safely to deputies.
Marine Division deputies then transported the male to Walter and Mary Burke Park in New Baltimore where he was evaluated. No injuries were reported. He declined further medical treatment.
Both men were wearing personal flotation devices (PFDs), which proved critical in ensuring a successful rescue.
The Macomb County Sheriff's Office reminds all personal watercraft operators to always wear a properly fitted life jacket and remain aware of all passengers, particularly when operating in rough water conditions.
