Harrison Township, MI – Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at approximately 3:00AM, the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) was dispatched to the 41900 block of Irwin Drive in Harrison Township for a report of a breaking and entering in progress. Suspect Joesph Calderon, 45 years-old from Detroit, allegedly cut through a fence to access the property.
Prior to arrival, Deputies were informed that the subject left the property in a stolen vehicle. Deputies located the vehicle. The driver refused to stop. As such, stop sticks were effectively deployed causing the vehicle to lose a tire. The suspect continued to flee until his vehicle came to rest in a field.
Calderon proceeded to flee on foot. An MCSO K9 was able to track the suspect, locating him hiding under a bush. Deputies took Calderon into custody without further incident.
Two electric bicycles and batteries were recovered along with the stolen vehicle and tools.
Two Deputies suffered minor injuries during the chase. They were taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Calderon was arraigned today in 41District Court in Clinton Township on charges of:
- One Count: Possession of burglar’s tools – 10-year felony
- One Count: Police officer - fleeing third degree – 5-year felony
- Three Counts: Unlawful driving away – 5-year felony
- One Count: Malicious destruction of property $1,000 - $20,000 – 5-year felony
- One Count: Breaking & entering/vehicle stolen property $1,000 - $20,000 – 5-year felony
- Three Counts: Larceny $1,000 - $20,000 – 5-year felony
- Two Counts: Police officer assault/resist/obstruct causing injury – 4-year felony
- One Count: Operating while license suspended – 1-year misdemeanor.
Bond was set at $25,000, cash/surety. Calderon remains housed at the Macomb County Jail.
