The Macomb County Office of Senior Services will host an open house for caregivers and their families at its Goldenberry Adult Day Center on Thursday, June 6 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Goldenberry is a state-of-the-art day program in Macomb County for individuals with Alzheimer’s or dementia-related conditions. The facility offers respite care for caregivers who are in need of assistance caring for their loved ones.
“Caregiver stress can be overwhelming. Knowing that you have a safe place to send your loved one can be a great relief,” said Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel. “Our center offers specialized services to individuals with complicated needs.”
Goldenberry offers flexible schedules, meals/snacks, activities, exercise, transportation, health monitoring, medication management, personal care, socialization, caregiver support and much more. Staffing includes certified nursing assistants, registered nurse accessibility and a social worker with a 1:4 ratio of 1 staff to 4 participants. Staff provide continuous supervision and practice mandated safety protocols.
“The cost of this type of programming can be overwhelming for individuals and families, but I want to emphasize that funding assistance is available,” said Sheila Coté, director, Macomb County Office of Senior Services. “Support can be provided through the Veterans Administration, Ageways and private pay - which is less than the cost of home health care. Our team will be able to discuss these options with anyone interested during the open house.”
Goldenberry leadership will also be able to discuss their credential as a Montessori Inspired Lifestyle Program. Montessori Inspired Lifestyle® (MIL) is a person-centered approach to living that involves understanding a person’s capabilities and interests and developing activities and plans of care that match the individual with their environment. This approach leads to greater independence and maintenance of remaining abilities among people with cognitive and physical disabilities. It also emphasizes the key values of respect, dignity and equality.
“I’m so proud of this credential,” Coté said. “We received it in February 2022, and we became the first adult dementia day center in the United States to be recognized by the MIL program. It really says a lot about the dedication, passion and innovation our team brings to the table.”
The open house will be held at 21885 Dunham Road, Entrance Door B in Clinton Township. An RSVP is requested and those interested can register here. Please contact Angela.Arnott@macombgov.org or call 586 469-5580 with any questions.
