Maintenance Project Phase I
The Gibson Drain Maintenance Project – Phase I, located near 18 Mile and Dequindre Road in Sterling Heights, includes dredging of the westerly end of the pond, maintenance of the open channel through sediment and debris removal, and stabilization of the drain banks to improve overall system performance. The project goal is to restore hydraulic capacity, prevent further bank erosion, and reduce future maintenance needs.
Construction activities within the open channel began the week of April 6, 2026.
This $9000,000 project is funded by the cities of Sterling Heights and Troy.
- The project includes the following:
Dredging of the westerly pond area
Open channel sediment and debris removal
Bank stabilization and erosion control
Installation of additional stone toe stabilization (27 feet)
Site protection measures and restoration
Construction began in April 2026, with substantial completion anticipated by June 1, 2026.
