Highwater Grant Project
This $1.8 million grant-funded project is part of a broader climate resiliency initiative to improve the ecological and hydraulic performance of the Clinton River Spillway. The work focuses on stabilizing vulnerable streambanks, enhancing habitat, and reducing sediment transport along a critical section of the Spillway.
Improvements are designed to strengthen system resilience to high water events while supporting long-term environmental and stormwater management goals.
The project includes the following:
- Installation of approximately 3,500 linear feet of coir logs for bank stabilization
- Installation of 150 linear feet of rootwad revetment
- Placement of 245 cubic yards of riprap
- Construction of habitat pools (600 cubic yards of excavation)
- Placement of native prairie seed mix over 1 acre
- Planting of 120 native trees
- Coordination with future pedestrian bridge improvements near Jefferson Avenue
These improvements will stabilize erosion-prone areas, enhance aquatic and terrestrial habitat, reduce sediment transport, and improve overall climate resilience.
Construction is anticipated to begin in July 2026 with completion in lake fall of 2026.
