Woman Guilty of Felony Murder in Death of Ex-Boyfriend’s Son

Mount Clemens, MI - A 46-year-old woman has been found guilty by a Macomb County jury for the death of her ex-boyfriend’s son after a six week jury trial by Macomb County Assistant Prosecutors Sian Hengeveld and Emil Semaan.
On Thursday September 22, 2016 Hilary Ulp was found guilty of First Degree Child Abuse of her then boyfriend’s 14 month old son, Nicolas Kuras, after being hospitalized on May 15, 2015. She was sentenced to 11 to 30 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections on Friday, November 11, 2016 by Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Richard Caretti.
The child was left with severe injuries and died due to those injuries on Thursday, January 7, 2021. He was almost 7 years old at the time of his death. Hilary Ulp was charged with Felony Murder, a life without parole felony.
Today, Ulp was found guilty of felony murder by a Macomb County Jury. She is scheduled to be sentenced on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at 8:30am by Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Diane Druzinski.
"I hope today’s verdict brings some measure of justice for the innocent child whose life was tragically cut short. This case is a reminder of the responsibility we all share in protecting our most vulnerable. The defendant’s actions were not only criminal but unconscionable, and the jury’s decision reflects the severity of her crimes," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
