Mount Clemens, MI -  A 48-year-old mother has been arraigned for failing to pay child support for her minor child. After a thorough investigation, the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office determined that the mother has the ability to pay but chose not to cooperate with our office on payment options.

In 2015, Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Mark Switalski ordered Andrea Kanakry to pay child support for her minor child. After failing to comply with the court’s order and accruing over $27,000 in child support arrearages, the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office charged Kanakry with felony nonsupport, a four-year felony.

On Monday, February 10, 2025, she was arraigned in the 41B District Court in Clinton Township before Magistrate Ryan Zemke, who set the bond at $6,765. A Probable Cause Hearing is scheduled for Monday, February 24, 2025, at 8:30 am in front of District Court Judge Jacob Femminineo, Jr.

"Parenthood comes with responsibilities, and no parent—mother or father—is exempt from supporting their child. Our office remains committed to holding individuals accountable when they willfully refuse to provide for their children, ensuring the well-being and stability of those who depend on them most," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.

The Family Division of the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office oversees felony nonsupport cases where arrears exceed $5,000, payments have not been made for three consecutive months, and there is evidence the noncustodial parent has the financial means to pay. The division’s primary goal is to secure financial support for children while ensuring justice is served.
