Warren Man Referred for Mental Health Evaluation in Child Abuse Case

Mount Clemens, MI - Today, a Probable Cause Conference was held for Vincent Zappa, age 25, who was charged with First Degree Child Abuse, a life felony.

On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, Vincent Zappa, was babysitting his girlfriend’s eight month old baby boy while she was at work.  It is alleged that Zappa abused the baby boy.  Zappa called 911 and stated the baby was not acting himself. The baby boy was taken to the hospital and was listed in critical condition with a significant brain bleed. Bruising was also found on the baby’s head, neck and chest.

Zappa was arraigned on Friday, October 25, 2024 where Warren District Court Chief Judge John Chmura set bond at $350,000 cash/surety only.  At Zappa’s Probable Cause Conference he was referred for a psychological evaluation for culpability and criminal responsibility at the Center for Forensic Psychology.  No further court dates have been scheduled at this time.

"The alleged actions in this case are deeply troubling, and we will work tirelessly to hold those responsible accountable. Our hearts go out to the family affected by this incident, and we pledge to handle this case with the utmost care and thoroughness as we proceed through the legal process," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
