Sterling Heights Man Sentenced to Life Without Parole for the Murder of his Girlfriend

Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Matthew Sabaugh sentenced Jason Ross to life without the possibility of parole to the Michigan Department of Corrections for the brutal murder of his girlfriend.

Sterling Heights Man Sentenced to Life Without Parole for the Murder of his Girlfriend

Mount Clemens, MI -  Today, Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Matthew Sabaugh sentenced Jason Ross to life without the possibility of parole to the Michigan Department of Corrections for the brutal murder of his girlfriend. 

On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, Jason Ross was found guilty of killing his girlfriend by a Macomb County Jury after a ten day jury trial by Assistant Prosecutors Elizabeth Abbo and Kelsey Heath.

On Saturday, July 24, 2021, Jason Ross brutally murdered his girlfriend, Kathleen Hales, age 47, by stabbing her multiple times and hitting her with a hammer in their home in Sterling Heights.  Ross hid the body and fled with the victims credit cards, prescription drugs and her car.  He was apprehended in Prescott, MI with one of the murder weapons and the victim’s belongings.

Ross, age 50, was found guilty of First Degree Murder, a life without parole felony, Larceny from a Building, a four year felony, Unlawful Driving Away a Motor Vehicle, a five year felony, and Stealing a Financial Transaction Device without Consent, a four year felony.  

"As a community, we cannot tolerate such acts of brutality. This sentence ensures that justice is served for the victim, her family, and all those affected by this senseless violence. Our thoughts are with the loved ones who continue to grieve, and we hope this conviction brings them some measure of peace," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
