Roseville Father of One, Arraigned for Not Paying Child Support

Mount Clemens, MI - A 59-year-old man has been arraigned for failing to pay child support for his minor child.
On Thursday, March 4, 2021, Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Rachel Rancilio ordered Kamal Assaf to pay $227.00 per month in child support. In 2024, a modification was made for Assaf to pay $504.00 a month. However, Assaf allegedly owes $10,255.00 in unpaid child support. He has had one show-cause hearing and one bench warrant issued against him.
After exhausting all enforcement options, the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office charged Assaf with felony nonsupport, which carries a potential penalty of up to four years in prison. On Thursday, December 5, 2024, Assaf was arraigned in the 41B District Court in Clinton Township before Magistrate Ryan Zemke, who set his bond at $2,563.00. A Probable Cause Hearing is scheduled for Monday, December 16, 2024, at 1:00pm before District Court Judge Carrie Fuca.
"Failing to meet one’s obligation to support their child is not just a personal failure—it’s a failure to uphold the responsibility every parent has to their family. This office is committed to pursuing justice for children and ensuring that parents are held accountable when they neglect their legal and moral duties,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
The Family Division of the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office oversees felony nonsupport cases where arrears exceed $5,000, payments have not been made for three consecutive months, and there is evidence the noncustodial parent has the financial means to pay. The division’s primary goal is to secure financial support for children while ensuring justice is served.
