Mount Clemens, MI – Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that 42-year-old James Vigneau, of Warren, MI, was arraigned on felony charges alleging that he committed an armed assault on two people and stabbed the family’s dog.
It is alleged that on Sunday, May 17, 2026, Vigneau was asked to leave the Warren, MI home of some friends after he made inappropriate comments. He pulled out a knife and slashed it toward a man and his daughter. The family dog came to protect his owners and Vigneau stabbed the dog in the mouth area two times. The dog suffered nonfatal injuries.
On Monday, May 18, 2026, Vigneau was arraigned before visiting Magistrate Ryan Zemke in the 37th District Court in Warren, MI. Vigneau was arraigned on the following charges:
- Animals – Killing/Torturing – Second Degree, a 7-year felony
- Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, a 4-year felony
- Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, a 4-year felony
- Habitual Offender – Fourth Offense Notice, an aggravating sentencing factor
Magistrate Zemke set Vigneau’s bond at $60,000 cash or surety only. If released, he must wear a GPS tether. Vigneau is not permitted to contact any of the complaining victims and must not have contact with animals that may be considered pets.
Vigneau is scheduled for a Probable Cause Conference before Judge Steven M. Bieda at the 37th District Court on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 8:45 a.m.
