St. Clair Shores man arraigned in two cases alleging he obtained money under false pretenses

Mount Clemens, Mich. – Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that 60-year-old Eric Williams, of St. Clair Shores, Michigan, was arraigned in two separate cases on felony charges stemming from him allegedly obtaining money under false pretenses. Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Caitlin Sahlaney is representing the People in these matters. 

It is alleged that between December 2024 and June 2026, the defendant accepted thousands of dollars in deposits and additional payments from a 73-year-old Shelby Township homeowner for multiple home improvement projects. It is further alleged that the defendant persuaded the homeowner to provide additional money by claiming he needed funds for cancer treatments, promising the loans would be credited toward the cost of the contracted work. It is alleged that the homeowner lost approximately $8,500.

Williams was arraigned on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, before Magistrate Christopher Alayan in the 41A District Court in Shelby Township, MI. Williams is charged with the following offenses:

• False Pretenses - $1,000 or More but Less Than $20,000 – Third or Subsequent Offense Notice, a 10-year felony
• Habitual Offender – Fourth Offense Notice, an aggravating sentencing factor.

These are the maximum charges available under the law based on the evidence presented to date.

Magistrate Alayan set Williams bond at $25,000 cash or surety only. If he is able to post bond and is released, he is subject to house arrest with a GPS tether. 

Williams is scheduled to appear for a Probable Cause Conference before Judge Stephen Sierawski at the 41A-Shelby District Court on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.

In a separate matter, Williams was arraigned on Thursday, July 23, 2026 before Judge Sebastian Lucido of the 41B District Court in Clinton Township, Michigan. The charges are the same as the Shelby Township case. 

The second case stems from allegations that Williams solicited a 69-year-old Clinton Township homeowner to provide home improvement work. It is further alleged that Williams accepted deposits and persuaded the homeowner to provide additional money after allegedly telling the homeowner that he needed money for cancer treatments. It is alleged that the homeowner suffered a financial loss of $4,500.

Williams is scheduled to appear for a Probable Cause Conference before Judge Sebastian Lucido at the 41B Clinton Township District Court on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.

“Homeowners place significant trust in contractors they hire to complete work on their property. When that trust is violated and individuals are accused of using that relationship to obtain money they are not entitled to receive, my office will thoroughly investigate and pursue accountability through the criminal justice system,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
