St. Clair Shores couple arraigned after allegedly throwing explosive in senior neighbor’s yard

Mount Clemens, MI – Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that Jason Showers, 45, and his wife, Megan Showers, 38, were arraigned on multiple felony charges initiating from them allegedly lighting and throwing an explosive device on their senior neighbor’s lawn.

It is alleged that on Monday, August 3, 2026, Megan Showers lit the explosive device held by Jason Showers prior to him throwing it in their 72-year-old neighbor’s yard. The red, cylindrical device with the words “BYE BYE” was extinguished by the neighbor. Law enforcement executed a search warrant at the Showers’ residence and it is alleged that firearms, ammunition, and materials for assembling explosive devices were recovered. 

On Wednesday, August 5, 2026, Jason Showers and Megan Showers were arraigned before visiting Judge David L. Draper in the 40^th District Court in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. 

Jason Showers is charged with the following offenses:

• Explosives – Placing Near Property, a 15-year felony
• Explosives – Possession of Bombs with Unlawful Intent, a 15-year felony
• Weapons – Firearms – Possession by a Prohibited Person, a 5-year felony
• Weapons – Ammunition – Possession by a Prohibited Person, a 5-year felony
• TWO COUNTS – Weapons – Felony Firearm, each a 2-year felony consecutive to main charge
• Habitual Offender, Fourth Offense Notice, punishable by up to life if convicted of any of the first four counts.

Megan Showers is charged with the following offenses:

• Explosives – Placing Near Property, a 15-year felony
• Explosives – Possession of Bombs with Unlawful Intent, a 15-year felony.

These are the maximum criminal charges available based upon the evidence presented to date.

“The allegations in this case are serious and especially troubling because they involve a senior member of our community. My office is committed to protecting public safety and prosecuting cases where individuals are accused of endangering others,” stated Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.

Judge Draper set Jason Showers’ bond at $100,000 cash only, steel cuff GPS tether if released, and ordered to have no contact with the victim or co-defendant and cannot return to his residence due to the proximity of the victim. 

Megan Showers’ bond is set at $20,000, with a 10 percent option, GPS tether if released and was ordered to have no contact with her co-defendant, the victim or his residence. Megan Showers can return to the marital home.

The Showers are scheduled to appear at a Probable Cause Conference before Judge Joseph Craigen Oster at the 40th District Court on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.
