Shelby Township woman charged with animal torture after allegedly abandoning dog

Press Release

Mount Clemens, MI – Peter J. Lucido announced that 38-year-old Stacey Pollack of Shelby Township was arraigned on charges of third-degree animal torture and abandoning or committing cruelty to one animal after allegedly leaving her dog alone in a residence she vacated.

On March 5, 2026, Shelby Township Police responded to a call for a welfare check on Pollack. It is alleged that while calling for her and knocking on the door, the improperly latched door opened. Officers heard a dog barking and saw it behind an upstairs gate. The dog was extremely malnourished and underweight. Macomb County Animal Control took the dog to be evaluated by a veterinarian. At this time, the Detroit Animal Welfare Group (DAWG) has the dog and is providing appropriate care and treatment.

On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, Pollack was arraigned before Magistrate Christopher Alayan in the 41A District Court in Shelby Township, MI. Pollack is charged with:

  • Animals – Torture – Third Degree, a felony punishable by up to four years in prison, and
  • Animals – Abandoning/Cruelty to One Animal, a 93-day misdemeanor.

These are the maximum charges available under the law based on the evidence presented.

Magistrate Alayan set Pollack’s bond at $10,000 cash/surety only, no 10%. If she is able to post bond, she must wear a steel-cuff tether and can have no contact with any animals that can be considered pets.

Pollack is scheduled for a Probable Cause Conference before Judge Stephen Sierawski at the 41A Shelby Township District Court on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.

“As prosecutors, we are obligated to defend those who cannot defend themselves, including animals that rely entirely on human care for their well-being. Cruelty toward pets is not a trivial matter, it represents a profound breach of both the law and our collective ethical standards. My office will not tolerate such conduct and remains committed to holding accountable anyone who mistreats animals in their care,” said Macomb County Peter J. Lucido.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office represents the People. We are committed to achieving justice and following the laws of the State of Michigan. All individuals who are accused of a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
