Prosecutor’s Office considering charges after alleged shooting in Sterling Heights

Press Release

Mount Clemens, MI – A 17-year-old juvenile and an 18-year-old man are being detained after an alleged shooting in a parking lot in Sterling Heights, MI on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

In regard to the juvenile, a Preliminary Hearing was scheduled to be held in the Macomb County Juvenile Court on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. Referee Kristin Stone granted the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office request for a Special Adjournment to allow for a thorough review of the facts and circumstances to decide if the interests of justice and protection of the public require the juvenile to be tried as an adult.  Referee Stone denied the juvenile bond and ordered him to remain in the Juvenile Justice Center pending the next Preliminary Hearing date set for Monday, March 23, 2026.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office is also evaluating a warrant request for an 18-year-old man related to the same alleged shooting. The matter is under review at this time. The man is in the custody of the Sterling Heights Police.

“The situation is serious, but I am grateful the victim was not gravely injured. It is always a somber matter when considering whether to charge a juvenile as an adult,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.  “To all the middle and high school administrators in Macomb County, please help us to help your students avoid behavior that will affect their futures. One bad decision today can have a direct impact on their tomorrows. Please call my office to schedule an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney to speak with your students. They need to know that real life decisions have real life consequences," Lucido added.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office represents the people of Macomb County.  We are committed to achieving justice and following laws of the State of Michigan. All defendants accused of a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
