MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. - Macomb County Assistant Prosecutor Robert Lulgjuraj is stepping down from his position to focus on his run for Michigan’s 10th Congressional District.
Lulgjuraj, a Sterling Heights native, joined the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office in May to lead its newly created, grant-funded Digital Evidence Optimization Unit. Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido launched the unit to improve the handling of the growing volume of digital evidence in criminal cases, including body-worn camera footage, surveillance video, cell phone data, and other electronic records.
During his time in the role, Lulgjuraj helped develop internal procedures for the unit and worked closely with local law enforcement agencies to coordinate evidence-sharing protocols, already resulting in the improved tagging of digital evidence.
“As someone who has dedicated my career to delivering justice for victims and supporting law enforcement, my time here at the Macomb County Prosecutors office has been incredibly rewarding,” Lulgjuraj said in a statement. “The response from the community since I started my campaign for Congress has been overwhelming, and I have realized that it requires my full attention. So, I’ve decided to tender my resignation to focus fully on my campaign while allowing the Macomb County Prosecutor the ability to put someone in my current position who can solely focus on delivering justice.”
“Robert made valuable contributions during his time with our office, especially in helping launch our Digital Evidence Optimization Unit and advancing our use of technology,” said Lucido. “I thank him for his service to Macomb County and wish him well as he takes on new challenges.”
Lulgjuraj further stated, “Prosecutor Lucido and his team are welcoming, mission-driven, and truly committed to justice and innovation. I thank Prosecutor Lucido for the opportunity, the members of law enforcement who I worked so closely with to build this innovative program, and my colleagues in the office for their cooperation and friendship. I wish them all the best moving forward.”
Before joining the Macomb office, Lulgjuraj served as an assistant prosecuting attorney in Wayne County, where he handled more than 2,000 cases and prosecuted a wide range of violent and high-profile crimes.
A graduate of Holy Cross College and the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, Lulgjuraj is also an alumnus of the Michigan Political Leadership Program at Michigan State University.
