Kestou bound over to circuit court again, related to canister explosion, death of young man

Mount Clemens, Mich. – Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that 34-year-old Noor Noel Kestou was bound over to circuit court for trial after a second Preliminary Exam on an involuntary manslaughter charge. The hearing was in response to the March 27, 2026, order of Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Michael E. Servitto remanding the case back to the Clinton Township District Court. The court ordered further proceedings requiring the prosecution to establish that Kestou’s storage of thousands of nitrous oxide and butane canisters presented a hazard that was the proximate cause of 19-year-old Turner Salter’s death and testimony addressing that issue was presented today.

On Thursday, August 13, 2026, the Preliminary Exam for Kestou was held before Judge Sebastian Lucido of the 41B District Court in Clinton Township, Michigan. At the conclusion of the Exam, Judge Lucido bound Kestou over as charged on a count of Involuntary Manslaughter, a 15-year felony.

The Preliminary Exam was conducted by Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Carmen DeFranco. 

The charge against Kestou, of Commerce, MI, stems from the death of Turner Salter of Clinton Township. It is alleged that on March 4, 2024, a building owned and operated by Kestou caught fire while storing thousands of nitrous oxide and butane canisters. The resulting fire triggered a massive explosion, propelling canisters into the air. It is alleged that one nitrous oxide canister traveled approximately a quarter mile before striking Salter in the head, killing him.

Kestou will be arraigned before Judge Servitto of the Macomb County Circuit Court in Mount Clemens, Michigan on Monday, August 24, 2026. 

“It is alleged that events of March 4, 2024, resulted in the tragic loss of a young man’s life, while also creating a serious threat to our community and the first responders who were there,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido. “Now that the defendant has been bound over again, we will move forward with the prosecution and continue to seek justice for the victim and his family.”
