Fort Gratiot man bound over as charged, facing 16 charges after alleged crime spree through Macomb County

Mt. Clemens, MI – Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that 53-year-old Thomas Edward Tackett, of Fort Gratiot, MI, was bound over on all counts as charged, stemming from his alleged crime spree through Harrison Township and St. Clair Shores, MI, on Monday, Oct. 6, 2025. 

Preliminary examination hearings were conducted before District Court Judge Jacob Femminineo in the 41B District Court in Clinton Township, MI, on March 20, 2026, and April 10, 2026. During the proceedings, the court heard testimony from 15 witnesses and considered written briefs submitted by both parties regarding the issue of bind over.

On June 11, 2026, Judge Femminineo bound Tackett over to the circuit court on all counts as charged. Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Derek Boedeker represented the People throughout the preliminary examination proceedings.

Tackett is facing the following charges: 

• Carjacking, felony punishable by life or any term of years
• 4 Counts,   First-Degree Home Invasion, a 20-year felony
• Second-Degree Home Invasion, a 15-year felony
• Weapons – Firearms-Receiving & Concealing, a 10-year felony
• Weapons Felony Firearm, a mandatory 2-year felony consecutive to related charge
• Police Officer – Fleeing – Third Degree – Vehicle Code, a 5-year felony
• Malicious Destruction Of Personal Property, a 5-year felony
• Assault With A Dangerous Weapon, a 4-year felony
• Police Officer – Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing, a 2-year felony
• Malicious Destruction Of A Building, a 1-year misdemeanor
• Operating – License Suspended, Revoked, Denied, a 93-day misdemeanor
• Driving - Reckless, a 93-day misdemeanor

Each of the 12 felony charges contains A HABITUAL OFFENDER – FOURTH OFFENSE NOTICE, which requires a mandatory 25-year prison sentence and the possibility of life imprisonment if convicted of a felony punishable by five years or more. 

These are the maximum charges available based upon the evidence presented to date.

Tackett will be arraigned before Judge Julie Gatti at the Macomb County Circuit Court in Mount Clemens, MI on Monday, June 29, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. He remains held without bond at the Macomb County Jail. 

It is alleged that on Monday, October 6, 2025, in Harrison Township and St. Clair Shores, Tackett engaged in a series of violent and reckless acts. It is alleged that he broke into five homes — four while the occupants were present — two in St. Clair Shores and two in Harrison Township, with a fifth unoccupied residence in Harrison Township. He is also accused of carjacking a man in Harrison Township, driving through and damaging the St. Clair Shores Golf Course, traveling the wrong way on I-94, and driving at dangerously high speeds.

Tackett allegedly stabbed a homeowner with a fork and resisted arrest. He eventually abandoned a vehicle and was taken into custody after a foot chase in Harrison Township.
