Mount Clemens, MI – Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that 37-year-old Daniel Gallus, Jr., a former Macomb County Deputy Sheriff, was bound over on charges stemming from an alleged assault that took place at the Macomb County Jail in September 2025.
On Friday, June 5, 2026, a Preliminary Exam was held for Gallus before Judge Carrie Lynn Fuca in the 41B District Court in Clinton Township, MI. At the conclusion of the Exam, Judge Fuca bound over Gallus as charged with the following offenses:
- Misconduct in Office, a 5-year felony
- Aggravated Assault, a 1-year misdemeanor.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Christopher Urban conducted the Exam on behalf of the People.
It is alleged that on Friday, Sept. 5, 2025, former Corrections Deputy Daniel Gallus assaulted an inmate at the Macomb County Jail resulting in the incarcerated person needing a head scan and stitches at a hospital.
Gallus is scheduled for Arraignment before Judge Kathryn A. Viviano at the Macomb County Circuit Court on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.
“Friday’s bind-over was a meaningful step toward justice. The people of Macomb County deserve confidence that the law is applied fairly and equally. My office does not consider a person’s status, position, or employment when making charging decisions or carrying out the prosecutorial process. We will continue to operate with transparency and uphold the principle that no one is above the law,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
