Father bound over to face trial on charge of owing over $8,000 in back child support

Press Release

Mount Clemens, MI - Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that Bruce Turner, Jr., a 32-year-old Clinton Township man, was bound over to face trial in Macomb County Circuit Court on a charge of failing to pay child support after allegedly accruing an arrearage of over $8,000.

On March 25, 2011, Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Mark S. Switalski ordered Turner to pay child support. It is alleged that Turner owes back child support in the amount of $8,237. He has had three Show Cause Hearings and one Bench Warrant issued.

After exhausting all enforcement options and determining Turner has the ability to pay, the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office charged Turner with failure to pay child support, a felony, which carries a potential penalty of up to four (4) years in prison. This is the maximum charge available under the law based on the evidence to date.

A Probable Cause Conference was held Tuesday, August 5, 2025 before 41B District Court Judge Sebastian Lucido. Turner waived his right to a Preliminary Exam Hearing and was bound over to stand trial. Turner will be Arraigned on the charge of Child Support – Failure to Pay before Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Matthew S. Switalski on Monday, August 18, 2025 at 1:30 pm.

Turner was released from the Macomb County Jail after posting a $2,059.00 cash bond.

"As we observe Child Support Awareness Month here in Michigan, it's a timely reminder that supporting our children is more than a legal duty, it's a fundamental responsibility. Child support helps ensure children have access to the essentials they need to grow and thrive: nutritious food, safe housing, education, and healthcare.

"When a parent consistently fails to meet that obligation, we must act. This isn’t about punishment for punishment’s sake, it’s about standing up for the well-being of children and holding individuals accountable for their responsibilities. Our office remains committed to advocating for every child in our community and ensuring that support is not just expected, but delivered," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.

The Family Division of the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office oversees felony nonsupport cases where arrears exceed $5,000, payments have not been made for three consecutive months, and there is evidence that the noncustodial parent has the financial means to pay. The division’s primary goal is to secure financial support for children while ensuring that justice is served.
