Mount Clemens, MI - Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that Charles Christie, a 47-year-old Macomb Township man, was arraigned on a charge of failing to pay child support after allegedly accruing an arrearage of over $40,000.
On July 22, 2010, Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Mark S. Switalski ordered Christie to pay child support. It is alleged that Christie owes back child support in the amount of $40,445.93. He has had nine Show Cause Hearings and six prior Bench Warrants issued.
After exhausting all enforcement options and determining Christie has the ability to pay, the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office charged Christie with failure to pay child support, a felony, which carries a potential penalty of up to four (4) years in prison.
This is the maximum charge available under the law based on the evidence to date.
On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, Christie was arraigned in the 41B District Court in Clinton Township before Magistrate Ryan Zemke, who set bond at $10,111, cash only. A Probable Cause Conference is set for Monday, August 11, 2025 before 41B District Court Judge Carrie Fuca.
“August is Child Support Awareness Month here in Michigan. A time to reaffirm a simple truth: supporting your child is not optional. It’s a legal duty and a moral commitment. Child support ensures that kids have the essentials they need to grow—safe housing, healthy meals, clothes on their backs, access to education, and medical care.
When a parent refuses to meet this obligation, the consequences are serious. This isn’t about punishment—it’s about standing up for children who deserve better. Accountability matters. We will continue to pursue every legal avenue to ensure no child is left behind,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
The Family Division of the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office oversees felony nonsupport cases where arrears exceed $5,000, payments have not been made for three consecutive months, and there is evidence that the noncustodial parent has the financial means to pay. The division’s primary goal is to secure financial support for children while ensuring that justice is served.
