Father arraigned on charge of first-degree child abuse

Press Release

Mount Clemens, MI - Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that 39-year-old Michael Antonelli was arraigned on a charge of First-Degree Child Abuse.

It is alleged that between May 14, 2025 and June 2, 2025, Antonelli abused his child. On June 2, 2025, Antonelli and his wife took their injured child to Children’s Hospital in Detroit. After medical evaluation, it was determined that the child suffered multiple fractures, all indicative of non-accidental trauma. After a complete and comprehensive evaluation of the evidence, it was concluded that the appropriate charge in this matter is First-Degree Child Abuse.

On Thursday, August 7, 2025, Antonelli was arraigned on the charge of First-Degree Child Abuse, a life or any term of years felony in the 41A District Court in Sterling Heights, MI before Magistrate Jean Cloud.

Magistrate Cloud set a $250,000 cash/surety, no 10%, bond. If Antonelli posts bond and is released, he must wear a GPS tether. He can have no contact with anyone under the age of 18, specifically his children. The matter was referred to community corrections for a bond review. Antonelli was remanded into custody.

A Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at 8:30 am and a Preliminary Exam is scheduled for Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at 1:00 pm, both before Judge Kimberley A. Wiegand at the 41A District Court in Sterling Heights, MI.

"This is an extremely sad and difficult case. Our focus remains where it must be, on protecting children and pursuing justice. It is essential that we allow the judicial system to run its course, guided by evidence and due process," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.

Due to the sensitive nature of the case, the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office will not release further statements at this time.

The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office represents the People. We are committed to achieving justice and following the laws of the State of Michigan. All that are accused of a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
