Press Release

Mount Clemens, MI – Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that Deandre Booker, a 33-year-old Roseville man, was determined to be competent to stand trial on charges related to the alleged murder of his former girlfriend, Ashley Lashay Elkins, who disappeared on Thursday, January 2, 2025. At a Pretrial Conference held in the Macomb County Circuit Court on Tuesday, June 3, 2026, the attorneys stipulated to the Competency Report from the Center for Forensic Psychiatry, dated May 20, 2026, that found Booker competent to stand trial and Judge Joseph Toia adopted the report.

Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Carmen DeFranco and Carrie Seward represented the People.

A Pretrial Conference for Booker is scheduled for October 26, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. His Trial date is set for November 10, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.

Booker is charged with the following:

  • First-Degree Premeditated Murder, a felony punishable by life without parole;

  • Concealing the Death of an Individual, a 5-year felony; and, from a related case,
  • Lying to a Police Officer in a Violent Crime Investigation, a 4-year felony.

“The determination that the defendant is competent to stand trial ensures that these proceedings can move forward in accordance with the law. The allegations in this case are exceptionally grave, and our office remains focused on presenting the evidence in court and seeking justice for Ms. Elkins and her loved ones,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
