Mount Clemens, MI - Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that 19-year-old Dezhiar Blair, of Eastpointe, waived her Preliminary Exam and was bound over to the Macomb County Circuit Court on a charge of Third-Degree Animal Torture after she allegedly kicked her mother’s dog in the head, causing it to lose an eye. The charge is a 4-year felony and the maximum charge available under the law based upon the evidence presented to date.
On Wednesday, March 11, 2026, Blair was scheduled for a Probable Cause Conference before Judge Kathleen G. Galen at the 38th District Court in Eastpointe, MI. At that hearing, Blair waived her right to a Preliminary Exam and was bound over for trial. Blair is scheduled to be arraigned before Judge James M. Biernat, Jr., in the Macomb County Circuit Court on Monday, March 23, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Justin Pollard represented the People at this hearing.
It is alleged that on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, Blair kicked her mother’s less than 5-pound Shipoo in the head. The dog was taken to a veterinarian who performed emergency surgery and had to remove one of the dog’s eyes.
Blair remains in the Macomb County Jail with a $50,000 cash/surety bond. If she is able to post bond, she was ordered to have no contact with or possession of any animals.
“Acts of violence against animals are not harmless missteps—they represent a serious breach of both law and decency. Creatures that depend on people for their safety should never be subjected to abuse or neglect. Our office will not ignore such offenses; we will pursue justice and ensure that those responsible are held fully accountable for the suffering they cause,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office represents the People. We are committed to achieving justice and following the laws of the State of Michigan. All individuals who are accused of a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
