Detroit man bound over on assault with intent to murder and felony firearm charges

Mount Clemens, MI – Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that 33-year-old Carlos Whittaker, of Detroit, was bound over on all charges stemming from a shooting in January 2026.

It is alleged that on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Whittaker engaged in an altercation with a co-worker after he was told he was fired from his employment at a business in Warren, MI. The altercation extended into the parking lot where another employee attempted to intervene to break up the fight. Whittaker shot the second co-worker. 

On Wednesday, April 21, 2026, Whittaker’s Preliminary Exam was held before Judge Suzanne Faunce in the 37th District Court in Warren, MI. At the conclusion of the exam, Judge Faunce bound Whittaker over on all charges. He is charged with Assault with Intent to Murder, a life or any term of years felony and Felony Firearm, a two-year felony consecutive to main charge. The People were represented at the Preliminary Exam by Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Nathan Wilson.

Whittaker will be arraigned before Judge Rachel Rancilio at the Macomb County Circuit Court on Monday, May 4, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.
