Detroit man bound over on all charges related to alleged false bomb threats to MCREST in Mount Clemens

MOUNT CLEMENS, MI – Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that 34-year-old Aramis Smith, of Detroit, was bound over on all charges stemming from him allegedly reporting false bomb threats to the Macomb County Rotating Emergency Shelter Team’s (MCREST) building in Mount Clemens in June 2025.

On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Smith’s Preliminary Exam was held before Judge Sebastion Lucido in the 41B District Court in Clinton Township, MI. At the conclusion of the exam, Judge Lucido bound Smith over on all charges. 

Smith is charged with the following:

• False Report or Threat of Terrorism, a felony punishable up to twenty years.
• False Report or Threat of Bomb/Harmful Device, a felony punishable up to 4 years.
• Habitual Offender, Fourth Offense Notice. This is an aggravating sentencing factor that may result in a life sentence if convicted of the most serious charge. 

Smith will be arraigned before Judge Matthew P. Sabaugh at the Macomb County Circuit Court on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.

“A bomb threat is not a prank. The moment those words are communicated, police, fire departments, bomb squads, schools, hospitals, airports, or businesses must assume the threat is real. Lives may be at stake. Every false report forces emergency responders to divert personnel and resources away from genuine emergencies where people may actually need help. Such acts are serious crimes and my office will treat them accordingly,” stated Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.

It is alleged that on June 7, 2025, Aramis Marquis Smith used a TextNow number to call MCREST and state “you need to leave, there may be a bomb in the building.” Two bomb sniffing K-9 units conducted a search of the MCREST building in Mount Clemens and determined there was no bomb present. Following the search of the building, Smith continued to contact MCREST four more times stating, “you still are not safe.” 

It is further alleged that Smith’s voice was recognized by a MCREST staff member, and the TextNow number was quickly traced back to Smith. Smith was then arrested by Macomb County Sheriff deputies while he was sitting across the street from the MCREST building.
