Mount Clemens, MI – Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that a 16-year-old juvenile will be arraigned as an adult on charges in connection with a fatal vehicle crash that allegedly occurred while fleeing from police in the early morning of Saturday, July 12, 2025.

At the arraignment, a formal reading of the charges will take place in open court. The Magistrate will then set bond and order conditions of release.

The arraignment on the charges will occur as follows:

Thursday, July 17, 2025 at 10:00 am

41B District Court

22380 Starks Drive, Clinton Township, MI 48036

(586) 469-9300

Before Magistrate Ryan Zemke

The People will be represented by Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Jeffrey Hall

A Preliminary Hearing was held in the Macomb County Juvenile Court on July 14, 2025. Referee Anthony Scotta granted the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office request for a special adjournment to July 18, 2025 to decide if the interests of justice and protection of the public require the juvenile to be tried as an adult.

After carefully examining all the available evidence including the severity of the allegations, Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido decided to charge the 16-year-old as an adult.

It is alleged that on Saturday, July 12, 2025, Clinton Township law enforcement responded to a call at an apartment complex. Upon arrival, officers observed a vehicle driving slowly through the area with its headlights and taillights turned off. When officers attempted a traffic stop using lights and sirens, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.

It is further alleged that the fleeing vehicle ultimately collided with another vehicle, resulting in a fatal crash. The driver and sole occupant of the suspect vehicle was identified as a 16-year-old Detroit resident. The driver of the second vehicle, 28-year-old Alex Habib of Madison Heights, sustained severe injuries and died at Henry Ford St. John Macomb Hospital in Warren, MI.

“This is a deeply troubling case. The decision to charge a juvenile as an adult is never made lightly. In this matter, we proceeded with careful and thorough consideration of how to best uphold fairness and justice. We are dealing with a serious allegation involving a minor whose actions are believed to have caused the death of an innocent man, a man who was simply driving to support his family,” stated Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido. He concluded, “Actions have consequences, and while youth is a factor, it does not erase accountability. Our role is to seek justice, and in this case, that means proceeding with the full weight of the law.”

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office will provide additional details after the arraignment.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office represents the people of Macomb County. We are committed to achieving justice and following the laws of the State of Michigan. All defendants accused of a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
