Mount Clemens, MI – Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that Lamar Rodgers, a 33-year-old Detroit man, was bound over for trial on charges of failing to pay child support after finding that he had the ability to pay and all efforts to work with him on payment options were exhausted.
On May 13, 2024, Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Tracey A. Yokich ordered Rodgers to pay child support. It is alleged he failed to comply with the court’s order, never made a payment and accrued $8,431.00 in back child support. One show cause hearing was held and one bench warrant issued. The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office charged him with felony nonsupport, which carries a potential penalty of up to four years in prison.
This is the maximum charge available under the law based on the evidence presented to date.
On Monday, January 12, 2026, a Probable Cause Conference was held before Judge Jacob Femminineo in the 41B District Court in Clinton Township, MI. Rodgers waived his right to a Preliminary Exam. Judge Femminineo bound him over for trial. He will be arraigned before Judge Matthew S. Switalski on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. in the Macomb County Circuit Court in Mount Clemens, MI.
At a district court arraignment on January 2, 2026, Magistrate Ryan Zemke set a $2,107 cash bond for Rodgers which has not been posted. As such, Rodgers remains in custody in the Macomb County Jail.
“A parent who withholds support is not merely violating a statute; they are failing their most fundamental obligation. We will persist in pursuing those who turn away from both the legal and ethical duties they owe their children,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
Prosecutor Lucido proposed the creation of a Child Support Specialty Court, a pilot program aimed at helping parents behind on child support payments find work, pay arrears and avoid felony convictions. “Our goal is simple: get children the support they’re owed while addressing the barriers that keep parents from paying,” Lucido said. The pilot court has launched and is already working with some individuals as they seek acceptance into the program.
Under Lucido’s direction, the office has focused on securing compliance rather than simply filing charges. Since 2022, the Family Division of the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office successfully collected over $3.9 million for children from delinquent parents. The Division oversees felony nonsupport cases where arrears exceed $5,000, payments have not been made for three consecutive months, and there is evidence that the noncustodial parent has the financial means to pay. The Division’s primary goal is to secure financial support for children while ensuring that justice is served.
